Let's Talk About Marketing That Doesn't Work

Sure it's great to know what does work, but it's equally important to know what doesn't work in marketing products and services on the internet. It's important so you can avoid wasting your time and money on methods that are already known to be failures. One such failure would be News Groups. If you don't know what they are, then don't bother finding out. They used to get some results at no cost because News Groups are free, but these days, everyone agrees that they're useless to advertise on.

And you already know that "free ads" don't work for a variety of different reasons. Another thing that no longer works is Spam. Now don't confuse spam with your own email list that have permission to send emails to. Spam is completely different than your own private list of email addresses. Sending email ads to your own list of email addresses that you collected from your lead generations website is the best way to advertise known to man. Spam is completely different. Spam is sending to people that have never done any sort of business with you and don't even know who you are. Spam is when you just go out and harvest/collect email addresses off the internet and start sending ads to them. Or if you just go purchase a list of email addresses and start mailing ads to it. That is spam and at one time it really did work pretty good. Spam did actually get great results some time before the year 2000. Many people actually did well with it back in 1996, 97, 98, and 99. But some time shortly after 1999, things got extra ugly in the world of spam. Part of the reason it worked before then was the fact that it wasn't as bad of a problem as it is now. As you probably know, spam has made a mess out of your email system. And if you're not experiencing a spam problem right now it just means you're probably using some type of spam blocker or spam killer program that automatically removes it before you have to see it. And these spam blockers are just another one of the many reasons why spam no longer works.

Back before all this chaos, confusion, spam blockers, and before the whole spammy mess got so bad, people actually used to read their spam. I know you probably find this hard to believe especially if you weren't on the net back then, but believe me, spam did at one time get great results.

But these days, I wouldn't even tell my worst enemy to start a spam campaign. Spammers are now regarded as the scum of the earth. And there is a major effort under-way to make sure that spammers emails are filtered and blocked. Not to mention there are new anti-spam laws going into effect with each new year that make it criminal to send spam. And spammers now face fines up to $1,000 per spam mail they send in certain states which doesn't make it very enticing.

But the biggest problem of all with spam is that just like with free ads, you'll end up getting almost zero results for your work. And sure, free ads and spam don't take much work, but they do still take up your valuable time you could be using to actually do advertising that gets excellent results. Don't get into that mind set that if something is free there is no harm in trying it or doing it regularly. Things like spam and free advertising will make you feel like a failure because you'll continue to see failing results. This can actually cause you to give up.

If you just focus on the kind of advertising that we already know is proven to get effective results, then you'll never feel like a failure because you'll be too busy taking orders and making bank deposits.
