Reciprocal linking

I mentioned the term "Reciprocal Linking" above and I hope you understand that getting other websites to link to your website is one of the single most important ways to get # 1 rankings/listings on the search engines. These days search engines assume websites that have lots of other websites linking to them are the best and most popular websites.

It's crazy but the people who have the most link partners are climbing the fastest on the search engines.

But in order to help your search engine ranking the sites linking to you must be relevant to your industry, products, or services. If you have a website selling marketing software and there's a cooking website, backpacking website, and a golfing website all linking to your website, this will not help your search engine placement at all. Those three website linking to you have nothing to do with your marketing software business and therefore will do nothing for you.

However, if you have 3 other websites that sell, review, or discuss marketing software linking to your website, this is a very good thing and your search engine listings will climb higher from it. Search engines love when related websites link to your website and they give you the top rankings for it. So always try to get link partners who have related products or services.

So how do you get related websites to link to your website to give you reciprocal links?

Just do a search for your industry, industry product, industry service, etc, and first take a look at all the websites that are in your same industry or same subject/topic. For instance, if you were selling marketing software, you'd just go to a major search engine like Yahoo and type in "Marketing Software" and then take a look at all the listings that come up that are closely related to your website.

Next just type up a small form letter like the one below:

I would like to trade links with your or be one of your link partners.

I see that your website is closely related to mine because we are both

In the same industry and sell similar products/services.

Would you be willing to put a link on your website that directs people

To my website at: www.OnlyReviews.com

I've already added your link to my website just to show you how

Serious I am about this. I figure by doing you this favor, you'll

Return the favor and list my link on your website.

I just send a few emails by hand each day like the one above to keep getting more and more websites to link to mine. Since I know that reciprocal linking in the single most effective method I can use to help improve my search engine listings, I spend a good deal of time working at getting more. And my search engine rankings keep climbing higher and higher every day. Trading links with other related website owners works better than any other website optimization/promotion tactic I know of. And getting link partners is now easier than ever.

More and more search engines are starting to require that other related websites link to you before they'll give you a top listing. I expect that soon all search engines will require you to have many reciprocal links so I wouldn't put this off. Get started on your reciprocal links campaign as soon as your website is finished. Of course when you return the reciprocal link favor to a website owner who has linked to you, don't just put links anywhere on your site. If you just start adding other peoples links to random spots on your website, your site will look amateur and unprofessional. Most website owners have agreed on a standard look and a fairly standard way to add reciprocal links to your website that keeps your website looking good and organized, yet still gives you all the benefits of reciprocal linking.
