How To Write Quality Sales Letters and Ad Copy

Just remember to always put yourself in the shoes of your buyer as you think of ways to write ad copy. You must understand exactly what your customer wants. You'll find it's a lot easier to sell a solution to your customers' problems than it is to try to sell a feature. So in selling your products or services, you should always bring up some problems that your target market are likely to have and then tell them how your product or service will solve that problem.

If you were a florist selling flowers you would just get average results if you said "We've got the freshest flowers in town." The reason your response from an ad like that would just be average is because you're not solving an immediate problem or telling your customer exactly what's in it for him/her. Everyone is always asking the famous question "What's in it for me?" All great ad copy addresses that question.

So you must answer that question to have an effective sales letter. In the case of the florist, imagine how much better she'd do if she understood the reason most people buy flowers is to enhance their romance. So if the florist changed her ad to say "Make your significant other feel like you just met all over again! Bring back the romance with our wide selection of fresh cut flowers today!" People don't want flowers, they want romance! Are you still not sure how to write ad copy?

Here's another example of how to write ad copy: People don't want shampoo. No, they want to have extremely nice looking, clean hair that's easy to manage. So you'll notice when shampoo companies advertise, they don't just tell their listeners about how clean this shampoo will make their hair. No, they show pictures of people with stylish, fashionable, cool looking hair styles that look like they don't have a care in the world. Yes, the users of their shampoo always look very stress free and happy. The ads for shampoo talk about things like "bounce", "finesse", "sheen", "full body" and "healthy hair." Notice those ads don't talk about squeaky clean hair with zero dirt in it. Hopefully, these examples above have helped you to understand how to write ad copy that gets results.
