The 7 Best External Bluray Drives

1

Pioneer Pioneer BDR-XD05TB 6 External Blu Ray Drive

84%

Similar to the Buffalo BRXL-PT6U2VB EU Ultra-Thin Blu Ray Writer, the Pioneer also features a strong exterior. It looked durable. We liked that it was light weight and that we could easily carry it. Another good feature that we found was the USB 3.0 compatibility.

This drive operated silently and was very simple to connect to the PC and laptop. We also liked that it has fast Blu ray burning. It is also backwards compatible and can play Blu ray as well as DVD, CD and also supports BDSL.

The USB cable however was a bit short for comfort. Also, as much as the Blu ray burner is fast, we found this to not be the case with the DVD burner. It took us quite some time to burn DVDs.

TOPELEK TOPELEK External Blu Ray Drive Review

90%

The first thing that caught our attention with the TOPELEK was the stylish and sleek design. We liked the fact that we could not only watch Blu ray discs but burn them as well. Connecting to the PC was super easy as all we needed to do was connect via the USB.

Another thing we liked with this external Blu ray drive was the fact that it came with USB 3.0 interface and was compatible with USB 2.0 as well as USB 1.0. We also found that it was compatible with windows 10, Mac OS and Linux.

However, the TOPELEK Blu ray drive feels a bit flimsy and could damage easily. We found that we needed to install software for it to be able to play Blu ray discs. This is also not the quietest player.

Buffalo Buffalo BRXL-PT6U2VB EU Ultra-Thin Blu Ray Writer

We immediately liked the slim design of the Buffalo BRXL-PT6U2VB. Similar to the TOPELEK External Blu Ray Drive, it was very simple to connect to the PC and laptop. When we played Blu ray discs, we found that it had extremely fast reading.

We wanted to find out how it performed with burning discs and liked that it was also very fast. This drive is backwards compatible which meant that we could play DVDs and CDs on it. Unlike the TOPELEK which appeared flimsy, this one looks durable with a strong exterior.

The downside was that we needed to install software for the drive to be able to function on Mac. The software that comes with the drive was out of date.

CIpotZIZ ClpotZIZ External Blu Ray Drive Review

72%

We immediately liked the USB 3.0 Interface of the ClpotZIZ Blu ray drive. Connecting to the PC was very simple and quick and we found that we needed no drivers. The drive was immediately detected by the computer. This is a fast-read drive and we found that it was backwards compatible as well.

The external housing of the drive is strong which makes it durable. It also comes with a slim design and was very simple to carry.

The main draw back was that the ClpotZIZ cannot burn Blu ray discs. We found that all it could do was play the Blu ray discs. It is also only designed for MacBook and Notebook PC.

We liked the simple connection of the Buffalo BRXL and the fact that unlike the ClpotZIZ External Blu Ray Drive it could run on windows. We also found that it could read as well as burn Blu ray discs. The drive is backwards compatible which allowed us to play DVDs and CDs.

The exterior of the drive is very strong which makes it durable. The reading speeds were good and we also found that we could burn Blu ray discs quite fast.

On the downside we found that the Buffalo BRXL doesn’t work very well with Mac OS. It also doesn’t read 4K Blu ray discs which we found quite inconvenient.

The Biscon was a very simple to use external Blu ray drive. All we needed to do was connect to the PC via the USB cable and we could play Blu Ray discs. There was no need to add drivers and we also found that it was compatible with both Windows and Mac OS which we liked.

The Biscon had very fast reading and we could also burn Blu ray discs within a very short time. The drive is also backwards compatible which meant that we could easily watch CDs and DVDs.

However, we found that the drive had some issues reading 4k Blu ray discs. It also kept skipping when we were playing DVDs.

We liked the sleek design as well as the strong exterior of the Asus Slim external Blu ray drive. It looked highly durable and could last a long time. We found that it was also very fast when writing Blu ray discs.

Other features that we liked included support for Blu ray 3D as well as the 2D to 3D DVD conversion. We liked that it comes with a dual positioning where we could lay it flat on the desk or vertical.

However, we didn’t like that it doesn’t read 4k Blu ray discs. We also found that we needed drivers to use the drive which it did not come with.

Consider how certain drives may come as DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW all meaning different things.
