NETGEAR NETGEAR VMS3330 3HD Security Camera Kit Review

76%

The Netgear is a wireless security kit that eliminates the need for cables which would interfere with the home’s aesthetics. This also makes it simple to install as we very well found out. It is a high-quality equipment that sends alerts through phone and email in case of any motion detection.

This camera kit features night vision for an all rounded 24-hour security. The cameras can be mounted both indoors and outside as they are weatherproof and can withstand rain and snow. The kit is sturdy as well.

We however noticed a delay in detecting movement and recording video. It also lacks audio capture and audio feedback.

Reolink Reolink 8CH 4MP Security Camera System Review

The Reolink also features night vision cameras similar to the NETGEAR VMS3330 3 HD Security Camera Kit. The daytime videos are high quality and clear. This is a wired kit that is simple to set up as well. It has a high memory capacity and can store up to 8 days of video recording.

The instructions are clear and straightforward and unlike the ANNKE 1080p Lite CCTV Camera System that only features 2 cameras this one has 4.

The downside is that while it does offer night vision, the videos are not very clear in the dark.

Blink Home Security Blink Indoor Home Security Camera System Review

90%

This camera system will record a short clip and send it to cloud while also sending an alert to your mobile phone. It is a wireless kit that requires the use of Wi-fi and features 2 AA Lithium batteries that can last up to two years before the need to recharge them again.

We found it to be very easy to install and basically anyone can do it. Unlike with the Fortress Security Store (TM)- S03-B Wireless Home Security Alarm System, the instructions are clear and easy to follow.

The downside is that the Blink doesn’t have a wide field of view. The video quality is also not the best.

Yale Yale EF-Series Telecommunicating Alarm Kit Review

86%

This is an easy to fit security system that doesn’t require any professional assistance. The accessories are wireless and come with an easy to read instruction manual. It is also expandable and the user can add up to 30 accessories so suit any large setting.

The Yale EF series features a loud siren measured at 104 db. We liked that using it doesn’t come with any monthly fees. It is efficient and detects the small movements and is straightforward to add settings on the control panel.

One drawback that we noticed is that the external siren doesn’t feature groove holes for adjusting during installation.

SANSCO SANSCO S4D4C1T Smart CCTV Camera System Review

94%

The SANSCO can function without the internet. However, for remote access users will need to have Wi-Fi installed in their homes. You can also watch videos on the TV or computer monitor using a cable connection.

It features a large 1TB hard drive that is able to both record while simultaneously playing previous recordings. The video quality is 1080p and the package comes with 4 waterproof cameras. You can also choose the motion detection setting which allows the camera to record only when movement is detected.

The major downside that we found with this system is that unlike with the Yale EF-Series Telecommunicating Alarm Kit, it is not wireless.

Fortress Security Store Fortress Security Store (TM)- S03-B Wireless Home Security Alarm System

80%

The siren that comes with the Fortress may not be as loud as the Yale EF-Series Telecommunicating Alarm Kit, but at 140 db. It is still a very loud siren. The control panel is simple to programme and the sensors are high quality.

We liked the auto-dialer function. It can automatically call up to 6 numbers in case of any forceful break in. The system also features motion detecting sensors that easily pick up on movement.

However, we didn’t like the instruction manual as we didn’t find it very simple to understand.

This home security system is wires and was very simple to install. It can work without the internet as well. It features a free mobile app that is available for both android and iOS. The app is simple to use and sends an alert immediately its motion detecting system is triggered.

We however found that it needs to be charged quite often as the battery life is not the best. This system also features a panic button but the main drawback with this is that it is very simple to trigger.

ANNKE ANNKE 1080p Lite CCTV Camera System Review

88%

The ANNKE has a higher quality video than the Blink Indoor Home Security Camera System. The field of view is also large and the cameras are weatherproof. It features a customizable motion detection system which helps to minimize false alarms.

This home security camera kit can also be remotely accessed and controlled. However, we didn’t like the fact that it only comes with 2 cameras. It is not wireless.

Frequently asked questions

What Is the Home Security System?

home security system typically involves a control panel which communicates with sensors to give off an alarm when the sensors are triggered. These sensors are places in convenient locations such as any windows or doors through which burglars or intruders can gain access into the house.

With a home security system, you are able to prevent burglars from gaining access to your home. This keeps your valuables safe whenever you are away. Since an alarm will be triggered if a door or window is open, the intruder will normally flee before they get the chance to do any damage.

Not only are your properties and valuables safe, a home security system also keeps family and loved ones safe. The mobile app that comes with the package allows the owner to control certain aspects of the home such as lighting. When away from the house, it is possible to turn on the lights remotely which will give the impression that someone is home which would deter would be intruders.

Another feature is gas and smoke sensors. In case they are triggered the control, panel will send a message to the phone allowing you to prevent any serious damage by calling in the relevant assistance from the authorities. They can even be set to send a message directly to the authorities.

Lastly having a home security system gives the owner peace of mind. It has been shown to improve productivity and overall health.

However, home security systems do come with their own share of drawbacks. For one they can give off false alarms. Sometimes a small animal such as a cat may gain access to the house triggering the system. If it is set to alert the local authorities, security may get dispatched for no serious reason.

The control panel uses batteries which may run out of charge over time. This would render the system useless until the batteries are replaced.

If the security system is connected to the local authorities through a wired phone, the intruder may cut the telephone line and then gain access.

Home security systems charge a monthly fee for the services. If you are on a budget, this may put extra strain on your finances.

What’s the Approximate Price Range for Home Security System?

Depending on the quality and number of components, the prices for home security systems range between £150 to well over £1500.

What Should I Look for When Choosing a Home Security System?

The first thing you need to check with your home security system is that it comes with all the necessary equipment. This means enough cameras, video recorder for recording the output, video cables, and the right number of sensors.

You also want to consider the monitoring system. There are basically 3 main types—landline, cellular or broadband. This will depend in part on where you live. If it’s a rural set up where the cellular connection is poor then the landline option is your best bet. If on the other hand, you want to take advantage of automatic features then the cellular or broadband variety is the way to go.

Home security systems can be installed by the owners while others require professional assistance. If again you live in a rural setting, then the type of home security you need will feature a landline and these can be complicated to install. You will need professional assistance. On the other hand, with an urban setting or an apartment, you can go for a DIY home security system.

Look out for extra features such as the ability to turn the lights on and off remotely, or automatically adjust the temperatures. These features make life more comfortable for the user.

You want to subscribe to a reliable security company. Only then will you have peace of mind knowing that you will get immediate response in case of a break in. Check reviews and pick one with good customer rating.
