The 10 Best Flashlights

REVIEWED AND RANKED IN CHESHIRE (UK) MAY 2018

We interviewed 30 campers and outdoor enthusiasts on the best features of a good flashlight. Simple to use, brightness adjustability, having different beam modes and keeping charge for a long time were the most common responses.

We then spent the next 72 hours testing more than 40 models of flashlight and found the Angle_wolf Blue Supwildfire 30000LM Hunting Flashlight to be the best. It was the brightest at 30,000 lumens, was simple to use and kept charge for a long time.

On the other end of the spectrum is the Geizland Q5 3W LED Flashlight. It is the lowest priced model but still very high quality, runs on a single AA battery and is simple to use. Lets find out more!

Anglewolf _Flashlight Blue Supwildfire 30000LM Hunting Flashlight Review

86%

This was the brightest LED Flashlight that we tested. With a capacity of 30,000 lumens we could see great distances in the dark. We liked that even while it is not waterproof, it could handle being splashed on and still work effectively.

We liked the construction of the Angle_wolf. It looked very high quality with the aluminum body and the lens were coated to give off a clear bright light. We also liked that this was a rechargeable kit and the 3.7V battery managed to hold the charge for a long time.

The main downside is that the Angle_wolf doesn’t come with a battery included and we had to purchase that separately. This meant extra costs. Also, the fact that it doesn’t run on AAA batteries means that when going into the backcountry, you need to have a backup battery which again meant more costs.

Zeelec Zeelec FL4 Portable Tactical Flashlight Review

100%

The first thing we noticed with the Zeelec was the magnetic base. This made it possible for us to place it onto a metal surface when we wanted to see in the dark without having to hold the flashlight. Another feature we were keen on was the rechargeable battery which made this an ideal home use flashlight.

We learnt that it comes with a Nano coating. This kept water out. When we put it inside water for a lengthy period of time we found that it wasn’t affected in any way.

The main downside was with the rechargeable battery. Since it doesn’t run on regular batteries the flashlight may not serve you continuously when you out camping.

Ledeak Ledeak T6 Upgrade L2 LED Flashlight Review

98%

We were impressed at how bright the Ledeak was producing up to 1200 lumens. We went on to test the adjustability of the flashlight and found that we could achieve a spot beam as well as a wide flood beam. The Ledeak also allowed us to choose between 5 different light modes.

We liked the exterior of the flashlight. It is constructed of a hard alloy that made it look durable. We were eager to find out how it performed in wet weather. We dipped it in water and saw that it continued working as normal with no signs of the water seeping in.

However, we found that the flashlight didn’t come with instructions which means that for someone who needs to learn how to effectively use it, the only option is learning on your own. That said, it was fairly easy to operate.

MIKAFEN MIKAFEN LED Tactical Flashlight Review

98%

We were impressed by the aircraft alloy body. It was durable which made the MIKAFEN a good choice for outdoor use. We also tried putting the flashlight in water and found that it was water resistant similar to the Ledeak T6 Upgrade L2 LED Flashlight.

Another thing that caught our attention was the fact that we could switch to 5 different modes which included high, medium, low, strobe and SOS modes. It is convenient to use in different settings whether outside at night or indoors.

However, one of the main concerns that we found with the torch is that it does tend to flicker sometimes. We also found that the chord that comes with the flashlight was not very strong and seemed like it could break easily.

WUBEN WUBEN LED Tactical Flashlight Review

90%

Like the Ledeak T6 Upgrade L2 LED Flashlight, we found the WUBEN to be extra bright able to produce up to 1200 lumens. We could focus the light to achieve a flood beam or a more focused beam. It also features a memory function that helps you store your previous settings. This means that if you are on a bright beam and decide to switch the flashlight off, it will still be in the bright mode when you turn it back on again.

We particularly liked the fact that we could recharge the flashlight using a USB. This would eventually save on the cost of always having to buy batteries. Another thing we liked was the waterproof feature.

However, while the package does say that the torch has an SOS function, we didn’t get this feature. After charging the flashlight to maximum, we found that it does not retain the charge for very long.

Lighting EVER Lighting EVER LE Adjustable LED Flashlight Review

95%

We liked the small and compact design of the LE adjustable flashlight. It comfortably rested on our hands allowing for a good grip. We also liked the fact that we could adjust the size of the light beam allowing us to view a large area as well as concentrate the light on a particular location.

This flashlight runs on 3 AAA batteries. These are quite easy to find and we could even carry backup batteries in case they ran out. We also liked the strong exterior. It could take a lot of shock from dropping and the flashlight didn’t get destroyed.

The downside is that this wasn’t the brightest flashlight as we found that it only produced 140 lumens. Another thing that we noticed is that it seems to consume a lot of power and this meant that the batteries would run out quite fast.

Vansky Vansky LED Tactical Flashlight Review

95%

We especially liked how the Vansky felt on the hands. It has a smaller build that made it especially simple and comfortable to carry. We found it to be very simple to use as well. While it is not as bright as the Ledeak T6 Upgrade L2 LED Flashlight, it did produce fairly bright light at 800 lumens.

Another thing we found out and enjoyed about the Vansky is that it could either run on a 3.6/3.7v battery or the regular 3 AAA batterers. We also liked that it comes with a strong and sturdy cover that is water resistant.

The downside is that when using the flashlight, we noticed that we could accidentally switch to a different light mode such as from a normal beam to a strobe light. This was quite annoying.

Ledeak Ledeak Cree XM-L2 LED Torch Review

95%

Similar to the MIKAFEN LED Tactical Flashlight, the Ledeak Cree is also constructed from an aircraft aluminum alloy. This made it quite durable and after dropping it a few times found there was really no major damage to the flashlight.

We liked that the flashlight runs of 3 AAA batteries. It was simple to use and felt comfortable on the hands. We also found that we could change the brightness of the beam to suit the situation from bright to medium to low. This was also a super bright flashlight that could cast light for a very long distance.

On the downside, the Ledeak doesn’t come with instructions which we found quite inconvenient. Also, the flashlight is not water resistant which means that it is not the best when going out in rainy weather.

Linkax Linkax LED Flashlight Review

95%

Unlike the Lighting EVER LE Adjustable LED Flashlight, the Linkax produced a very bright light. We tested it and found that it produced 800 lumens. We liked the fact that the light was adjustable which allowed us to achieve a wide area flood beam as well as a focused beam.

We liked the strong and sturdy exterior. It absorbed shocks very well and didn’t crack or show any sigs of damage even after we dropped the flashlight continuously. The flashlight also felt very comfortable on the hands and the grip was good.

However contrary to what is said on the manual we found that the Linkax is not the best at keeping out the water. After using it in the rain, the glass fuzzed up as there was some water that seeped in.

Geizland Geizland Q5 3W LED Flashlight Review

92%

This is a small and compact flashlight that we found could easily be put inside the pocket for convenient carry. For its size, we also found that it produces a bright LED light. The Geizland runs on a single AA battery which made it super lightweight.

Another thing we noticed is the zoom option which allowed us to focus the light beam. The exterior was well made and the turn on-off button was conveniently situated for simple use. This is not a waterproof flashlight but can handle moderate showers.

We didn’t however like the battery cover. Every so often we found that it could to unroll itself. The zoom option also gave us a few issues as the torch changes focus when you point it downwards since the zoom is not very secure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Flashlights?

Flashlights are handheld electronic devices that emit light from either an incandescent build or an LED light source. They are normally used in case there is a power outage or when finding your way in the dark.

What Are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Flashlights?

The first and most obvious reason why you need a flashlight is illumination. You are always going to find yourself in the dark whether is due to certain situations such as a power outage or simply when the sun goes down.

Flashlights produce a stronger beam of light compared to say, the smartphone flashlight. This helps you see better and further.

Most flashlights will come with a rugged design which allows them to withstand the shocks of dropping. They are therefore more durable than other sources of light.

However, on the other side, some flashlights can be quite bulky which would make them inconvenient to carry. Certain models are also quite expensive.

Another disadvantage is that flashlights run on batteries. For this reason, in case the batteries die out, you can find yourself in the dark if you don’t have backup batteries.
