The 10 Best Phone Camera Lenses

REVIEWED AND RANKED IN CHESHIRE (UK) MAY 2018

Our team of experts with a combined 20-year experience in the field purchased 30 different phone camera lenses. Then, it tested those lenses on both Android and iOS smartphones, compared their picture quality, tallied their magnification power, gauged their ease of attachment, and juxtaposed all their features with their price tags.

Consequently, their final list shrinked to 10 best camera lenses on the market, among which the Mpow 180 Degrees Fisheye lens is the best because it offers 20x magnification power. Also, the Mpow is easy to attach and comes in a competitive price.

However, if you are looking for the most compatible option - one which could attach to multiple camera and phone types - the LESHP 7-in-1 Telephoto Lens deserves your attention.

The Best Phone Camera Lenses (available in the UK)

1

Mpow Mpow 180 Degrees Fisheye Lens Review

90%

The Mpow 180 is our top pick because it provides macro lens magnification. That is, if you use this lens, your camera could provide up to 20x magnification power, the most any lens has to offer in this review. And it isn’t only the magnification power as the image quality of the Mpow is equally impressive. Then there is the ease with which the Mpow attaches to the phone camera.

However, you cannot use the phone lens well enough with the phone case on which we found quite inconvenient. Second, the lens will cover the phone flash when taking shots at night.

Apexel Apexel Universal 18X Clip-On Telephoto lens Review

70%

This camera lens comes with an 18X telescopic lens which makes it very simple for you to manually adjust the focus. Using the Apexel universal telephoto lens was also very easy and its image had no distortion whatsoever.

The one downside that we found with the lens was the time it took to fit it onto the phone. It is quite fiddly. We also found that it is prone to vibrations and shaky hands which affected the quality of the final image.

Yarrashop Yarrashop Mobile Phone Camera Lens Kit Review

84%

The Yarrashop Mobile Phone Camera Lens has a fish eye design which allows viewing of images in 180-degree. You can also use this lens on both Android and iOS Smartphones. Also, since it is a macro lens, you can take images of tiny objects with greater clarity.

However, there were a few drawbacks with this model. With the fish eye setting, the edges of the images were a bit blurry. On some mobile phones, to give the lens the best fit, you may have to remove the protective case.

LESHP LESHP 7-in-1 Telephoto Lens Review

88%

Like the Yarrashop mobile phone camera lens, the LESHP telephoto lens features a clip-on design that is simple to use. It also provides the fish-eye design and is compatible with a wide range of smartphones, both Android and iOS. An impressive 15x magnification power is also on offer, and a protective carry case is included in the package of this device.

However, we were particularly not keen on the fact that the images came out a bit blurry around the edges.

CamKix® Camkix Smartphone Photography Kit Review

80%

Since this photography kit comes with camkix lens, it lets you hold the phone in a variety of angles without disrupting the image quality. It includes 5 lenses in the package including a fish lens, a telephoto lens, and a polarized lens. Another thing about this package that caught our attention is the universal phone holder. What’s more, you could use these lenses with any type of smartphone.

However, we did notice that like the LESHP 7-in-1 Telephoto Lens, the sides of the images came out blurry with the Camkix.

SGODDE SGODDE 10x52 Monocular Scope Review

70%

First thing first, the telescopic monocular of this camera lens deserves a mention. It features multi-coated optics that produced high-quality images that didn’t have any distortion. The kit comes with a tripod that holds the phone securely in place and prevents shaking. The rubber exterior, meanwhile, makes this device sturdy.

The first drawback of this device is that its tripod isn’t very sturdy. Second, it is easy to attach this lens to the phone.

Goodsmiley Goodsmiley 12X Universal Optical Lens Kit Review

70%

The Goodsmiley universal optical lens comes with a 12X magnification. What’s more, you can use the camera lens separately as a telescope or a binocular as well. Versatility of this model is also impressive as it can attach to different phones with ease.

On the downside, it is affected by vibrations and shaky hands. As a result, you can get blurry images especially if/when your phone’s zoom is increased.

ARORY ARORY 12X telephoto Lens Review

80%

Like the SGODDE 10x52 Monocular Scope, the ARORY telephoto lens comes with multi-layered optics. That allows it to produce bright images even in low light conditions. Also, thanks to its ABS shell construction, the whole unit is extremely lightweight.

Thanks to the accurate optical path, the images of this lens showed little distortion. And the fact that it provides 12x magnification further improves the utility of this model.

On the downside, the zoom is not the best feature of the lens. Once we switched over to the wide-angle lens, we noticed that the image tends to get blurry along the edges.

9

AIZBO AIZBO 12X Zoom Lens Universal Telephoto Lens

63%

The Aizbo features 12x magnification, produces good image quality, and allows you to get some good shots in HD. Unlike the ARORY 12X telephoto, the zoom feature of this device is easy to operate. Whether android or iOS, this phone camera lens is also compatible with many different types of phones

However, we did notice that it was very sensitive to vibrations and shaky hands. For the best quality images, we needed a good tripod.

Mpow Mpow Fisheye Lens Review

84%

The Mpow fisheye comes with a10X macro lens which provides good magnification and high-quality images. Its fish lens allows the Mpow to take 180-degree images and that too in very high quality. It features a simple to use clamp design which makes attaching the lens to any smartphone a cinch.

The downside is that with the fisheye lens, there is a bit of chromatic aberration. Also, it doesn’t provide a carry case in the package.

What Are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Phone Camera Lenses?

Advantages

The first thing you will notice when you attach a phone camera lens to your mobile phone is the larger field of view. This results in much better images compared to simply using the phone camera.

Second, phone camera lenses are extremely easy to use. Simply attach them on the phone and continue using your phone as usual. What’s more, you don’t have to concern yourself with storage as the images are stored directly in the phone.

Most phone camera lenses come with a kit that includes a carry case, a cleaning cloth and lens caps for protecting the optics from scratches.

Compared to purchasing a separate camera, phone camera lenses are quite affordable and allow you to make the most of your smartphone camera.

Disadvantages

Cheap phone camera lenses might distort the picture.

What Is the Approximate Price Range for Phone Camera Lenses?

The price of a phone camera lens can range anywhere from £10 to well over £200 depending on the quality.

What Should I Look for When Choosing a Phone Camera Lenses?

Image Quality

Needless to say, the first thing you want to look for while choosing a phone camera lens is the quality of the image it provides. After all, capturing those awesome shots are the main reason you want a phone camera lens, right?

Price

The second most important factor is the price. A higher price phone camera lens often means a better-quality build and good optics.

Sturdy Frame

And then there is the build. The best lenses will have a strong and sturdy frame, durable optics and will come in a case for easy transportation and packing.

Ease of Use

Yet another factor is how easy it is to use the phone camera lens. You obviously want to steer clear of a product that doesn’t easily attach to your phone camera and takes a long time to get things to work.

How to Protect Phone Camera Lens from Scratches?

There are many ways to keep your phone camera lens free from scratches.

First, ensure that the lens cover is always in place when not in use. Ensure that you do not place the phone camera lens on hard surfaces directly without the cover on.

Even when you don’t have the cover, you can wrap the lens in a wiping cloth that normally comes with the package.

Thirdly, always clean the phone camera lens before putting the cover on and storing away. You can as well clean the lens before use. This removes any dust particles that could cause scratches.

What Are the Three Main Types of Lenses?

When choosing a phone camera lens, you have the option of macro, wide angle with fisheye, and telephoto lenses. With the macro lens, you are able to get super close to your target for a better-quality image.

With telephoto lenses, you get magnification between 6X to 12X. They are a bit larger than the macro lenses and even come with a tripod. If more magnification is what you are looking for, then the telephoto lens fits the bill.

The third type of lens is the fisheye lens. It features a deep field of view. What this means is that an object that is either too close to or too far from your camera is kept within focus. They also offer high magnification.
