Compared to bed trays, overbed tables have a lot more functionality. When loved ones come home from the hospital and need to spend a lot of time in bed, overbed tables allows them to still perform a few tasks as they recover.
Overbed tables also provides room to place a few basic necessities such as a mobile phone, pen, notebook or a newspaper. If you are recovering from injury, you can spend more time in bed to help you recover faster.
When injured is not the only time that you require an overhead table. If your physician recommends bed rest due to say, pregnancy, an overbed table will certainly help you sleep and rest better by placing all your necessities close by and eliminating the need to move more.
However, overbed tables also come with a few drawbacks. Firstly, if there is not enough clearance between the top of the bed and the base of the overbed table, getting on and off the bed can prove a bit difficult.
Also, some overbed tables are non-tilt which makes them harder to use especially with a laptop. Often, overbed tables that allow for tilt are much more comfortable to use. A lip at the bottom of the table will help prevent things from sliding off when you tilt
